Lady Eagles' rally falls short in loss to Lady Indians in district finale

Madison Central outscored Madison Southern 17-6 in the first quarter and held on for a 56-49 win in the 44th District finals Friday night at Baptist Health Arena.

The Lady Eagles overcame an 18-point deficit at the 3:24 mark of the third quarter and closed the gap to within five twice in the final quarter. Overall, Southern outscored the Lady Indians 37-22 in the second half but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.

Laci Sandlin paced the Lady Eagles (20-10) with 19 points and completed a double-double with 12 rebounds, including eight on the defensive end.

Hadley French followed Sandlin witth 16 points and connected on a pair of 3-pointers. Bailey Hensley added nine points, Cami Duerson scored three and Ashlan Estepp added two.

Madison Central (18-11) placed three players in double figures. Brittany Campbell and Nataya Strader led the Lady Indians with 17 points each and Cameryn Ridderikhoff scored 14. Eden Carter followed with six and Brooke Campbell chipped in with two.

Madison Central will host a first-round 11th Region game, while Southern will play its next game on the road. Times and dates have yet to be announced.
