Tornado of 1974: ‘Just an Eerie day’ Turpins recall surviving tornado in parents’ basement on Peacock Road

Mimi and Billy Glenn Turpin show off a photo of their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009. The dress in the picture is one Mimi wore in 1969. During the 1974 tornado, the dress was tossed into a pond roughly 100 yards from their house in northern Madison County.
