Finally Home
After rushing to get everything packed, a husband and wife arrived at the airport for their early morning flight.
“I wish I had brought the refrigerator,” the wife told her husband.
“Why do you wish that?”
“Because,” she said, “out tickets are on top of it.”
Sometimes we can face hiccups in our travels. Sometimes things just don’t go right for us. Not so for Rebel, a cute little cat that recently completed an adventure that lasted some four months and covered many miles.
Patti Gaines had given up hope of ever seeing the frisky little feline again. There are just so many potential perils out in the world for a cat to face. There are cars and coyotes and who knows what else.
So convinced was Patti that Rebel was gone for good that she had given away all his things.
A few weeks ago, a very friendly cat walked into Frank Pryor’s yard, purring and brushing against his ankles, essentially saying “I like you so feed me.” Frank fed the cat and began checking around to try to find its owner. He struck out, so he began trying to find someone willing to adopt the cat.
While in the local farm store the other day, Frank asked if anyone would like the affectionate fellow. Patti’s son, Kenn, was there. He told Frank that his mother’s cat had disappeared several months ago, that she might be willing to adopt him.
Imagine her delight when the cat turned out to be none other than Rebel himself. There was no mistaking Rebel. He is a very unique feline with a nearly perfect white zero on his black back. He was born with it.
After a long journey, Rebel had gotten through the perils of this world and made it home.
You know each of us are much like Rebel in that we are maneuvering the perils of this world and will one day make it home to a place the Lord has prepared for us. You may be familiar with the old song “Wayfaring Stranger.” The lyrics say:
I’m just a poor wayfaring stranger
traveling through this world below.
There is no sickness, no toil, no danger
In that bright land to which I go.
I’m going there to see my father
and all my loved ones who’ve gone on.
I’m just going over Jordan.
I’m just going over home.”
Home for the Christian is going to be such a wonderful place. I love what the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:9. “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for those that love Him.”
You can just imagine how thrilled Rebel was to be home. That pales in comparison to the elation of believers who cross Jordan and step into the place prepared for them. To quote another songwriter, “What a day that will be.”
