Wayne Short,

Wayne Short, a lifelong resident of Berea, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on Feb. 5, 1948, he was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Wayne spent his career as a skilled carpenter at Berea College, where he not only shared his craftsmanship but also his spirit of cooperation and community.

Although preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Rosie Mae Mounce Short, a daughter, Teresa Short, and siblings Charles Short, Ray Short, Geraldine Lowder, and Leslie Ray Short, Wayne's legacy continues through his loving family. He is remembered by his son Robert Short and wife Lynn, his daughter Becky Short, his treasured grandchildren Trinity Allen and Carrie Masters, as well as his adored great-grandchildren Keira Oquaye, Preston Short, and Andrew Short. Wayne's memory will also be cherished by his brothers James (Peggy) Short, Keith (Carolyn) Short, Kenneth (Sharon) Short, his sister Della Casteel, and many devoted nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Terrace for their exceptional care and kindness.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 10, 2025 at Lakes Funeral Home with Pastor James Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Rockcastle County.
