Virginia Cleo Phelps Cantrell

Virginia Cleo Phelps Cantrell, 92, passed away Friday Jan. 17, 2025, in hospice care, during a brief stay at Berea Health Care in Berea. She was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Johnson County to the late Samuel & Mabel Chapman Phelps, and grew up in the West Van Lear Coal Camp. She was a community minded person who always walked every neighborhood where she lived and enjoyed getting to know her neighbors.

She loved all children, especially her grandchildren. And she loved to sit on her porch in the sun or walk around the farm. She was a positive and determined person, depicting the great strength and endurance of her generation.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by four siblings.

She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Schrader and her husband Paul of Berea, Vicky Hayes and her husband Clarence of Bereaa, her niece, Rita Daniels and her husband Carl, of Berea, and one grandchild, Laura Oliver and her husband Matt. She has four great grandchildren.

At the request of Virginia and family, cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled currently.
