February 16, 2025

Members of the Lockard's Creek/Manchester Fire Department performed a water rescue at a residence on Curry Branch around mid-day Saturday in Clay County.
According to the Manchester Enterprise, a man and woman called Clay County 911 and reported they could not exit their trailer, and their electricity was blinking, leaving them worried about possible electrocution.
Manchester Fire Chief Jason Nolan and Brandon Adams worked through the flood waters with a raft to remove them and up to eight small dogs from the home.
High water has made Ky. 80 impassable in several areas. The Enterprise also is receiving reports that Ky. 1524 at Goose Rock is impassable. The road at Ky. 638 at Greenbriar is also currently closed.
Lockard's Creek Chief Charles "Dobber" Weaver reminds motorists not to enter high water.
"You have no idea what's lying on the road in this situation," he said. "Trees, debris, and various items can cause your vehicle to become stuck, and in just a matter of seconds, water could be inside your vehicle. Please, turn around, don't drown."
In Knox County, a motorist whose car became trapped in flood waters on Saturday afternoon was rescued, according to the Mountain Advocate.
The incident occurred when a car entered flood water from Lick Branch onto Warrior's Path at Flat Lick. The East Knox Volunteer Fire Department rescued the sole occupant of the vehicle. No injuries were reported from the accident.
Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith encourages motorists to avoid traveling onto water-covered roadways, remaining "weather-aware" and stay safe.
Several roadways across the county took on significant amounts of flooding due to heavy rainfall earlier Saturday. Many roads and side roads remain unsafe to pass as of Saturday evening, Feb. 15.
Assisting EKVFD at the scene were Knox County Sheriff's Deputy Beth Hensley and Deputy David Dunn.
