March 10, 2025

Barbara Joan Davenport, 80, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

She was born on January 8, 1945, in Manchester, and was the daughter of Cecil and Fredia Hacker, both of whom preceded her in death.
Barbara was a woman full of spunk and tenacity. As a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, she brought a vibrant energy to her family and to everyone she met. She was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who spent countless hours caring for others, always going above and beyond with a heart full of compassion.
A lifelong member of the Baptist faith, Barbara found strength and comfort in her beliefs, and her sisters' singing of hymns meant the world to her.
Barbara’s love for the water is something her family will always remember—she enjoyed soaking in the sun by the pool or feeling the sand beneath her feet at the beach. She enjoyed a good game of Rummy and loved to be in the kitchen. Her delicious recipes will be passed down for generations to come. She was the heart of her family, devoting her life to spoiling her granddaughters and, in recent years, her great-grandsons, RyTy and Cam, with all the love and attention they could handle, enjoying every minute of it. And, let’s not forget her beloved cat, Luna, who she adored.
Known as Granny to so many more than her own family, Barbara’s larger-than-life personality and fiery spirit will never be forgotten. Her love was fierce, her laughter contagious, and her zest for life unmatched. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and an unshakable bond with those she cared for most.
She is survived by her son, Bobby Dean Davenport, and his wife Donna of Richmond, KY. Barbara loved spending time with her son, especially enjoying his barbecues in the backyard. Donna was not just a daughter-in-law but a true daughter, with a bond built on love, trust, and cherished memories.
Barbara is also survived by her four beautiful granddaughters: Brittany LeAnn Hoskins and her husband Shannon of Shelbyville; Ashley Michelle Eden and her husband Scot of Somerset; Heather Nicole Hinkle of Winner, SD; and Halle McBeth Kerr and her husband Christian of Richmond; two great-grandsons, Ryan Tyler Hoskins and Cameron Scot Eden; one very special young man who she adored, Jacob Hoskins, who was like her grandson; five sisters: Wanda Burns of Manchester; Faye Blair and her husband George of Manchester; Marilyn Roberts of Wilmore; Darlene Curry and her husband Robert of Manchester; and Carolyn Hobbs and her husband Paul of London; three brothers: Ralph Hacker and his wife Judy of London; Johnny Hacker and his wife Elaine of Manchester; and Donnie Hacker and his wife Tammie of Manchester; and a host of nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Davenport; her daughter, Michelle Marie Hinkle; her sister, Helen Gray; and two very special angel great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 9 a.m. at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Ralph Hacker and George Blair officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.
Burial will follow on Monday in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
