Mattie Ellen Creech Samples, 71, passed away on Sunday, March 30, at her home.
Mattie was born on April 8, 1953, in Jackson, Kentucky, and was the daughter of James Arthur and Myrtle Marie Clemons Creech, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a graduate from Breathitt County High School, where she was Salutatorian of the Class of 1971. Mattie was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church in Richmond, was a former Sunday school teacher and church clerk, and had retired as an X-ray technologist. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, scrapbooking, and shopping on eBay. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family, and she especially looked forward to their Monday night family dinners.
Survivors include: her husband, Bobby L. Samples, of Richmond; one son, Ryan Sizemore, of Richmond; one daughter, Heather Sizemore (Freddie Reeves); grandchild, Marley Addison White (Brandon), of Berea; two brothers, Dennis Creech and Joe Creech, both of Jackson; and three sisters, Mary Johnson, of Beavercreek, OH, Elsie Palmer, of Poteet, TX, and Ella Johnson, of Stanford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two step-sons, Justin L. Samples and Shawn C. Samples.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, at Unity Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Creech, Pastor John Cravens, and Bro. Gerald Rudd officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Ryan Sizemore, Joe Creech, Freddie Reeves, Dwayne Creech, Vic Morefield, and Lawrence Bailey.
