Gregory Lee Brackney

Gregory Lee Brackney, 69, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Richmond, Kentucky, on April 6, 2025. Born and raised in Adrian, Michigan, Greg lived a life defined by service, love, and an insatiable curiosity for the world around him.
In 1973, Greg answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force, where he dedicated 20 years of his life with honor and commitment. After his military service, he found fulfillment in helping others navigate their financial futures, spending 28 years as a dedicated tax preparer.
Greg was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—sharing great conversations over coffee, delving into history and literature, and traveling to visit those he loved. His kindness and compassion left a lasting impact on everyone he met, as he deeply cared about people’s experiences and perspectives.
Above all, Greg had a devoted family that he loved and cherished. He is survived by his devoted wife, Liza Watts Brackney, and his children: Sarah Arni (wife of Dominic Arni), Abigail Brackney (wife of Daniel Miller), Kathryn Brackney, and Rachel Brackney. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jack, Elizabeth, and Ryan Arni; Emily Brackney and Logan, Avery, and Mason Miller; and Eliot Scott and Esmae and Everett Brackney.
He was also a stepfather to Shene Watson, Tyson Watson, and Dr. Jillian (Jay) Watts-Abdul Rashid (wife of Imani Abdul Rashid), as well as a beloved step-grandfather to Sintel Watson, JaKyra Thomas, Zaiden Granillo, Nia Watts, Chance Vancleave, and Ezra Watson.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, William E. Brackney, and is deeply missed by his mother, Mildred J. Zimmerman Stockwell. He will also be cherished in the memories of his siblings, Kevin Brackney, Rebecca Davis (wife of David Davis), Michael Stockwell (husband of Kara Stockwell), William Stockwell, Michelle Sandusky (wife of Charles Sandusky), and Brad Brackney (husband of Tracy Brackney), as well as his stepbrothers, Robert and Mark David Sinclair. He leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Greg’s life was a testament to warmth, integrity, and the power of human connection. His presence will be missed, but his legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at noon. at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.. until the time of service. Military Honors will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice, reflecting his lifelong dedication to helping others.
