Chris Stanifer
April 15, 2025

Chris Stanifer, 77, of Richmond, passed away on Saturday, April 12, at the UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, after a brief illness.
Chris was born on January 9, 1948, to the late Cecil & Hazel Stanifer. Growing up in a home where his father owned and operated Stanifer’s Men’s Shop, Chris was always a sharply dressed young man with an interest in people. Chris made it his job to know anyone and everyone who crossed his path...and he was good at it. After attending Model Laboratory Schools for grade school, Chris later transferred to Madison Central High School, where he graduated in 1966.
In 1968, Chris joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After his initial enlistment was up, Chris joined the Kentucky National Guard eleven months later and once again served his country faithfully until his retirement in Jan. of 2008 with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Chris was a long-time employee of IBM, and later Lexmark, where he retired after 30 years. But Chris was not one to retire and go home, so he worked for Keeneland in Guest Services and most recently as a Ticket Writer in the Sales Arena. Not long ago, Chris earned his 20-year pin at Keeneland - he was very proud of that accomplishment. He also worked for a short time at Ace Hardware in Richmond, and he loved being able to see many of his long-time friends, as well as meet new ones, as he helped around the store.
When Chris wasn't helping others throughout the community, he enjoyed being outdoors, working and gardening in his yard, and cherished spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling and browsing in antique malls.
Chris was a long-time member of the Flatwoods Christian Church, where he faithfully served as Deacon, Elder, and Chairman of the Board.
In 1968, Chris married Linda Worrell, and together they enjoyed life, raised two daughters, and shared 48 years together until her passing in 2017. In 2019, Chris met and married Anne Thomas, and these last few years have been full of shared interests, taking long drives in the country, going on trips, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
In addition to his wife Anne, Chris is survived by: two daughters, Kim Boggs (Gary), and Katrina Stanifer; four grandchildren, Drew Boggs (Megan), Taylor Zale, Brooklynn Zale, and Conner Zale; two step-children, Kristen Fryer (Keith), and David Thomas; five step-grandchildren, Palmer Parks (JR, II), Deacon Thomas, Kali Thomas, Hudson Fryer, and Eli Fryer; one great-grandchild, Brooks Brewer; one step-great-grandchild, J. Roger Parks, III, as well as two more on the way; and a special nephew that was like a son, Derrick Stanifer (Stacy). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents & first wife Linda, Chris was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Stanifer, Jr., and Charlie Stanifer.
Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Richmond Cemetery Pavilion, with Dr. Charles Brown officiating. Full military honors will be observed. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home website (www.cpcfh.com) starting at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pavilion.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Gary Boggs, David Thomas, Drew Boggs, Eil Fryer, Hudson Fryer, Deacon Thomas, Conner Zale, Derrick Stanifer, Phil Herald, and Donnie Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Chris are suggested to the Flatwoods Christian Church, PO Box 127, Waco, KY 40385.
The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
A healthy Madison County requires great community news.
