Blitz a success

by Submitted

More than 70 volunteers came together April 11–13 for the 11th Annual Victory Garden Blitz, hosted by Sustainable Berea. In just one weekend, the team installed over 100 raised garden beds for families across Berea and Madison County, helping both new and experienced gardeners grow fresh food at home. “The weather cooperated just enough to make it a true blitz — fast, focused, and full of community energy,” said Betina Gardner, executive director. “Volunteers built beds, bagged soil, and made deliveries with teamwork and heart.” The beds were made available through both full-service installation and DIY kits, with support from donors helping keep costs low for participants. Since 2014, the Blitz has installed more than 1,600 raised beds, increasing food security and building stronger, more connected neighborhoods. Corporate sponsors and individuals will be recognized on the Blitz banner at Berea Urban Farm. Visitors to the farm can also see more than 100 raised beds used for vegetables, flowers and herbs.
