Virginia “Betty” Turpin

Virginia “Betty” Turpin, 93, passed away on May 11 at her residence in Bybee, surrounded by her loving family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
She was baptized at Waco Baptist Church as a young woman, and later attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Irvine.
She was born in Estill County on February 23, 1932, to the late James Wiley Powell and Hazel Kidwell Powell. Most of her childhood was spent in Panola with her grandparents, the late Wylie and Rosa Powell.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Turpin, and her daughters: Judy Harrison, Wanda Witt, Rebecca Turpin; son: David Turpin (Angela); brother: Carl Powell; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles P. Turpin, sister: Christine King; grandchildren: Pete Harrison and Kristina Harrison; and son-in-law, Glenn Witt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, at the Combs, Parsons, and Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Sheryl Thomas and Rev. Kenneth Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are: Tony Harrison, Ricky Thomas, Marion Fox, Robert Tussey, Roger Austin, Chris Croucher, Toby Honaker, and Luke Honaker.
Honorary pallbearers are Jamesetta Honaker, Beth Rupard, Sarah Daniel, and Members of the Bybee Community Church Prayer Group, of which she was a member.
