June 10, 2025

Sonja Kendrick, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully in Berea on June 2, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 22, 1939, Sonja's life was one marked by joy, dedication, and a love for those around her.
Sonja was the cherished daughter of the late Charles Hughes and the late Fannie Kouzis, and beloved stepdaughter to the late Archie Kouzis and Mary Hughes. She was the adored wife of the late Ellis Kendrick, and their union was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Sonja's legacy continues through her living siblings, Chris Hughes, David Hughes, Mike Hughes, George Kouzis, John LaChapelle, and Diann Hill, who will keep her memory alive along with her numerous nieces and nephews. She joins in peace her late siblings Bobby Hughes, James Kouzis, Ardith Hughes, Avanel Hobbs, and Millie Ann.
For many years, Sonja served the community with a smile as a cashier at Piggly Wiggly, where she wasn't just an employee but a friend to all who walked through the doors.
Sonja's passions extended far beyond her work. She was an exquisite cook. Additionally, her love for crochet and cross-stitch created not only beautiful pieces but also lasting memories. Her dogs, always by her side, were a source of infinite joy and comfort.
Maxcine (Tina) Kendrick and Noel (Ruby) Kendrick, Sonja's sister-in-law and brother-in-law, respectively, remember her fondly for her heart of gold and gentle spirit.
Funeral Services will be held at Lakes Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kenny Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Cartersville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon until service time. Pallbearers will be Charles Hill, Johnny Hill, Josh Hobbs, Chris Hughes, Chris Kendrick, and Thomas Dunn.
