Coleman Whitaker

Coleman Clay Whitaker, 83, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Compassionate Care Center surrounded by his family.
Coleman was born on June 5, 1942, in Madison County and was the son of Russell Brutus and Nellie Marie Miller Whitaker, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a retired battalion chief with the Richmond Fire Department. After retirement, he also had commercial cleaning and painting businesses. Coleman loved the Lord, and he was a faithful member of White Hall Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school for many years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and taking rides in the country. He enjoyed watching Cincinnati Reds baseball and was an avid UK Wildcat fan.
Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Carol Kilburn Whitaker; two sons, Raymond Clay Whitaker and David Alan Whitaker (Teresa); two daughters, Terri Atherton (Dennis) and Carmyn Kelly (David); one sister, Kathy Whitaker; nine grandchildren, Derek Kelly, Ashley Baker, Kalynn Dessenko, Kristyn Kelly, Dennis Atherton Jr., Chelsie Peters, Amanda Brown, Holly Whitaker, and Tyler Whitaker; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Elmer Masters, Betty Spears, and Stanley Whitaker.
A funeral service was Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will followed at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were his Grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be: Gail King, Chris Doolin, Johnny Webb, Tim Heaberlin, and retired members of the Richmond Fire Department and Waco Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY 40475.
