Roy Lee Croucher

Roy Leonard Croucher, 89, affectionately known as Roy Lee by everyone who knew him, died Friday, June 20, at The Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berea. He was a Mount Vernon native born December 15, 1935, son of the late Robert and Mollie Chasteen Croucher, U. S. Army Veteran, and resident of Rockcastle County all his life. He was a farmer, property owner, and retiree of Parker Hannifin Corporation. He was a longtime faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he served in numerous capacities, including Trustee for many years.
Roy Lee was known by everyone in the Snyder and Conway communities as a mechanic, rebuilder of classic cars, and for plowing gardens and hauling water for friends, neighbors, and community members. Along with his wife Velma, he was also the owner and operator of Croucher’s Garage and Grocery for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Velma Mullins Croucher; daughters Vonda Poynter (Jeffery), Dawna Gilliam (David), Twila Burdette (Jeffrey T.); grandchildren Jonathan Poynter (Leah), Emma Sennett (Lance), Ryan Poynter, Benjamin Gilliam, Rebekah Gilliam, Thomas Burdette (Tori Dotson), Zoe Burdette; great grandchildren Ellison Sennett, Emery Sennett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and church family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Amanda Renee Poynter; siblings J. B., Ed, Bert, Junior, Fred, Willard, Norma, Pauline, Bobby.
Funeral Service 1 p.m., Monday, June 23,  at Fairview Baptist Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Berea Cemetery. Visitation 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday at the church. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Poynter, David Gilliam, Jeffrey T. Burdette, Jonathan Poynter, Ryan Poynter, Benjamin Gilliam, and Thomas Burdette. Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews Glen Croucher, Eddie Croucher, Buddy Croucher, Bob Alexander, Tim Alexander, Mike Alexander, Chad Croucher, and those who have served as Trustee and Deacon with Roy Lee at Fairview Baptist Church.
