Barbara Benton Hendren,

Barbara Benton Hendren, 85, wife of Billy L. Hendren, passed away on Monday, June 23, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on April 15, 1940, in Madison County and was the daughter of Edgar and Virginia Taylor Benton, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a member of First Christian Church of Richmond. She was a retired Systems Analyst with the Department of Defense. In this position, she traveled extensively throughout the world, most notably North Korea.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mary Sue Bowlin (Steve), Lynne Sneed, and one son, Kevin Hendren. Grandchildren: Courtney Jane Russell (Patrick), Stephanie Sturges (Trevor), Madison Szabo (Chris), Chandler Sneed, and Jennifer Baker (Brian). Great-Grandchildren: Callahan Russell, Norah Russell, Sadie Russell, Lucas Szabo, Jack Baker, Ella Baker, and Mike Baker.
Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, Nolan Benton, Charles Benton, Jimmy Benton, and Shirley Benton.
A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Vickers and Billy Glenn Turpin officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Kevin Hendren, Chandler Sneed, Steve Bowlin, Chris Szabo, Kenneth Benton, and Joe Lambert.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jimmy Howard, Kenneth Barger, Tony Cox, J.D. Chaney, Joyce Davis and The Breakfast Club; Curtis Davis, Art Pace, Wayne Bowlin, Gene Parks, Conrad Long, Cecil Curry, George Begley, Bill Kirby, Roger Faulkner, J.B. Collins, and Bill Fultz.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Christian Church, Richmond or Hospice Care Plus.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Samantha Fruit, Hospice, and Amanda Kirby for the loving care they provided to Barbara. A special thank you to Donna Agee and the Dominion Senior Living Center staff for their exceptional, compassionate care.
