Speed, alcohol a factor in deadly crash on Mayde Road

A Berea man was killed and another seriously injured following a single-vehicle collission at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to a release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Alex Clark, 20 of Berea, was killed when the Buick passenger car he was driving on Mayde Road left the roadway and struck a tree. He was pronouced dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner’s office.

A passenger in the vehicle, Ty Thompson, 19, also of Berea, suffered serious injuries and was transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

According to the release, alcohol and speed are suspected in the crash.

The accident is being investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit. They were assisted on the scene by Richmond Police Department, Berea Police Department, Madison County EMS, Berea Fire Department and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
