Norman Lee "Cotton" Carpenter

Norman Lee “Cotton” Carpenter, 88, of Berea, passed away Friday, March 23, 2024, in Georgetown after being involved in an auto accident after suffering a medical event. Cotton was born in Sand Springs, KY to the late Robert “Bob” and Annie Kirby Carpenter. He was a member of the Big Hill Holiness Church.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Young Carpenter, and his second wife Ruth Bailey Carpenter; his sisters, Reece Anderson, Pearl Thomas, Gladys Mink, Nettie Fletcher, and Elizabeth Carpenter; a brother David Carpenter; one son Robert “Bobby” Malicoat, and grandson John Malicoat, and a great granddaughter, Jenny Marie Anglin.

Cotton is survived by his daughters, Mary Etta Spires of Berea, and Della Mae Berry of Somerset; sisters, Faye Miller and Dessie Himes of Lexington; brothers, Jay (Mildred) Carpenter and Ronald (Judy) Carpenter of Richmond; grandchildren, Mark Berry, Randy Berry, June (Jack) Frank, Pam Thacker, Iva Wolfe, Bart (Sue) Malicoat, Tom (Amy) Malicoat, Doug (Becky) Malicoat, Sherry (Herb) Dinkle, and Tracy (Bill) Peck; great granddaughter, Jessica Thacker along with 15 other great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and special family, Bradley and Anjellica Isaacs and their girls.

Cotton made his trade as a welder, working in Lexington for D&S pipeline, CS&P pipeline then taking a job at Berea College where he retired after several years. He loved to weld trailers and doing some woodworking as well.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Stevie Isaacs officiating. Burial will follow in the Scaffold Cane Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6- 9pm, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
