Johnie Douglas Adkins, 78, a cherished soul known for his dedication to his family and his admirable work ethic, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, in Richmond. Born April 27, 1946, in Greenup, to the late Johnnie and Edna Adkins, Johnie spent his lifetime creating a legacy of love, resilience, and craftsmanship in the hearts and homes of many. Before moving to Richmond, he and Carolyn lived in Beavercreek, Ohio, where he built custom homes for over 30 years.

Johnie is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Clegg Adkins, and seven children, Diana Vorhees (Donald), Mary Smith, John Adkins, Robert (Melissa) Hook, Bobby Adkins, Lisa Crider, and Johnna Adkins. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank Johnie’s grandchildren Mikayla Hook, Dylan Adkins, and Tyler Crider for their special care and dedication. He is also survived by one brother, George (Jenny) Adkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Edward Hook, and his six siblings, Clyde, Jack, Oscar, Randy, David, and Florie.

The family has chosen to honor Johnie’s wishes for cremation without any formal services.
