Roberta Neal McKinney
Roberta Neal McKinney, 93, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Richmond surrounded by her family. She was born on April 6, 1931, in Garrard County, to Barney and Minnie Begley Hughes. Roberta was the widow of Turner McKinney who preceded her in death in 2010. She was a member of the Berea Church of God where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She retired from Ajax Electrodryer.
During her life here on earth, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. Being a wife and raising her sons was a great honor, but her greatest joy in life came as being a grandmother, or “Granny”, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was the heart and soul of her family and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by three sons: James (& Dawn Marie) Neal, Fred (& Robin) Neal, and Walter (& Linda) Neal, three step-daughters: JoAnn (& Junior) Hickey, Vernice (& Alfred) Lainhart and Jean Newton, her grandchildren: Melissa Brashears, Kristy (& Jimmy) King, Heather (& Kevin) Blaylock, Tish (& Jake) Langford, Chad (& Coleen) Neal, Monica (& Chris) Bothman, Justin (& Tina) Neal, Brittany (& Doug) Roberts along with a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Helen Tucker, Jean Miles, Barney Hughes.
Funeral Services were conducted Saturday, July 27th at Combs, Parsons, and Collins Funeral Home. Pastor Stephen Hobbs officiated. Burial followed in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Justin Neal, Jimmy King, Doug Roberts, Kevin Blaylock, Matthew Neal, Dawson Blaylock and Chad Neal. The family wishes to express their special thanks to Hospice Care Plus for
