Mary J. Mays
Mary J. Mays was called home to the Lord on August 1st, 2024, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of love and family. Born on October 5th, 1934, in the beautiful fields of Jessamine County, Kentucky, Mary was a beacon of light to all who knew her. She lived a life grounded in faith and devotion.
As a homemaker, Mary poured her soul into creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family.
Mary was preceded in her heavenly journey by her parents, Elgan Atwood and Anna Katherine Hamm Stapp, her husband Walker Mays, her daughter Gayle Carpenter, her grandson Derek Cruse, son-in-law, Danny Land, and one brother, Elgan Atwood Stapp II. She leaves behind a vibrant tapestry of memories and love in her daughters Vicky (Jerry) Hubbard and Bonnie Land; grandsons Dwayne (Carlina) Cruse, Jared (Lisa) Hughes, Jason Hubbard, and Austin Land; four great-grandchildren, Kayli Hubbard, Daniel Cruse, Ally Dawn Cruse, and Cash Land; three nieces, and one nephew.
Throughout her life, Mary’s heart belonged to the Lord and her family. She rejoiced in every moment spent with them, and her legacy of faith and family will continue to glow brightly in the lives she touched.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea. Bro. Joe VanWinkle officiated. Burial followed in the Mays Cemetery in Rockcastle County.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hubbard, Jason Hubbard, Jared Hughes, Larry Jones, Jeffery Sampson, and Daniel Alexander. Honorary bearers were Lana Alexander, Rachel Sampson, Bonnie Jones, Angie Cole, Tracy Lakes, and Sandy VanWinkle.
