Mrs. Betty Jean Ray Karnes, 87, of Berea, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 27, at Compassionate Care Center.
Mrs. Karnes, the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Ray, was born in Garrard County on June 3, 1937. She worked at M & M Drug Store, Robinson Tool & Die, Phillips Lighting, and Begley Drugs. She loved camping, doing crafts, and quilting. More importantly, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest love was God and her family. She was loved dearly and was the rock of her family. She will be truly missed by all her family and those who called her a friend.
On November 23, 1989, Betty united in marriage to Cleve Karnes, who survives.
Other survivors include: one daughter: Gail Dalton Dannelly, a step-daughter: Trista (& Rich) Stevens, her brother: Donald “Buddy” Ray, three grandchildren: Donald (& Ashley) Fitzpatrick, Nikki Stacy and Ronnie Lee (& Meagan) Dalton, her step-grandson: Logan Stevens, her great grandchildren: Allen (& Marissa) Fitzpatrick, Kyliee Nichole, Blake Fitzpatrick, Kayla Castorina, Jacob Castorina, Emma Dalton, Evan Dalton and Dylan Dalton; her great-great grandchildren: Kylie, Aaron, Bentley and Cassie Fitzpatrick and Korbin Castorina, several nieces and nephews whom she loved, her life time best friend: Cathy Plowman and her fur baby, Mitzi.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Karnes was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Dalton, one brother: Wayne Ray, and three sisters: Mary Ray Hartman, Geneva Ray Bowling, and Rosie Ray Lear.
Visitation will be held from Noon – 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home with her grandson, Donald Fitzpatrick, officiating.
Mrs. Karnes’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
