It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Carole Goodlett Powell, 80, on April 23, 2026, in Greenville, S.C.

Carole was born and raised in Lawrenceburg, Ky., a place she always held dear. She later made her home in Berea, where she built a life centered on family and caring for others.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Powell; her son, David Whisman; and her parents, O.B. and Mildred Goodlett.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sara Powell Gogins, and son-in-law, Terrance Gogins; her sister, Donna Goodlett Royse and sister-in-law Betty Sue Croucher; and her cherished grandchildren, Damien Watson, Devon Watson, Gabriel Gogins, Kai Gogins, and Micah Gogins; and her nieces and nephews, Mark Royse, Elizabeth Royse, Carrie Vargas and Brian Abney. 

Carole earned her nursing degree from the Martin Memorial School of Nursing and devoted her life to caring for others as a nurse at Berea Hospital. She will be remembered for her kindness, generous spirit, and the warmth and laughter she brought to those around her.

A Celebration of Carole’s Life will be held at First Christian Church, 300 S. Main Street, Lawrenceburg, Ky., on May 2, 2026, at 11 a.m.

Flowers are warmly welcomed. The family also suggests memorial donations to First Christian Church of Lawrenceburg, Ky., or Prisma Health Palliative Care of Greenville, S.C., in gratitude for their care and support.
