Dessie Slone Barnes, 71, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2025 at home surrounded by her family.
Dessie was born on August 26, 1953 in Lexington, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Johnnie Slone and Glacia Anderson, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a retired supervisor with Challenge Manufacturing and attended Grace Covenant Church of God. In her leisure time she enjoyed scrapbooking. She also loved to be outdoors and work in her flowers. Dessie will be remembered as a loving mother and a strong, independent woman.
Survivors include: her son, Phillip Barnes (Malena); three grandchildren, Haley Barnes, Destiny Barnes, and Cody Barnes; one step-grandchild, Hannah Jones; one step-great-grandchild, Jahsiah Gibson; two brothers, Nelson Slone and Johnnie Slone; four sisters, Linda Stapp, Kathy Bryant, Judy Poynter, and Sue Dick; one half-sister, Patricia Potts; and numerous nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: one brother, Shannon Slone; and two sisters, Dilent Moore and Essie Norman.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Grace Covenant Church of God with Bro. Johnny King officiating. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship.
