Doxie Cope, 83, passed away on October 16, 2026, in Berea, Kentucky. She was born on March 17, 1943, in Clay County, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a caring spirit that touched all who knew her.

She was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Hacker Smith. Doxie was united in marriage to Freddie Cope on October 1, 1965, and he preceded her in death. Together, they shared many years of love, companionship, and family life. Their marriage was a lasting example of commitment and devotion, and the memories they created together remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Doxie was a loving mother to her son, Richard Smith, and her daughter, Melissa (Steven) Pheanis. She was also a proud grandmother to Zachary “Zacky” Pheanis, who brought her great joy. Her family was the center of her world, and she was known as a natural caregiver who always placed the needs of others before her own. She gave her love freely and consistently, and her presence brought comfort, stability, and warmth to those around her.

She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Hazel) Smith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Arlie Smith, Arnold Smith, and Pansy Hacker. The bonds of family were deeply important to Doxie, and she carried the memory of her loved ones with her throughout her life.

Doxie found meaning in the simple and steady routines of home life. She loved housekeeping and took great pride in caring for her home and family. She was known for her dependable nature and her willingness to help wherever she was needed. Her family could always count on her, and she offered her care with patience, kindness, and a gentle heart. She had a way of making others feel supported and valued, and her love was expressed through the many thoughtful ways she served those around her.

She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her nurturing spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. Doxie lived her life with grace and humility, and she leaves behind a legacy of devotion that will continue to be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Berea Health and Rehab for the great care that they provided for Doxie while she was there.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Three Links Christian Church with pastors Jack Martin and Grant Martin officiating.
