Edna Walter, a spirited and loving soul, passed away peacefully at Hospice Compassionate Care on December 26, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on June 21, 1936, in Rockcastle County, Edna was the cherished daughter of the late Henry and Nora Johnson Chasteen.
Edna had a passion for her work, and unwavering support for her favorite sports teams. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Walter and a mother to her children, Tony Trent, Sonny Trent, Vicki Lynn Moore, and Billie Joe Walker. Her legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren and the joyous laughter of her numerous great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by six siblings Johnny Chasteen, Earnest Chasteen, Virgil Chasteen, Lee Chasteen, Emily Coffey, and Mattie Willis. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Chaney, Recie Botkin, and Betty Chasteen, who will remember her for her vibrant spirit and unconditional love. Edna's life was also enriched by her special friend, Mary Thacker, and she was a cherished aunt to multiple nieces and nephews.
Her career was as fulfilling as her home life, having retired from Walmart's bakery, where her sweet creations brought smiles to many faces. She also retired from Frisch's Big Boy, where her dedication and hard work were appreciated by both colleagues and customers alike.
Edna was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky basketball, her enthusiasm for the games as infectious as her smile. Her spirited nature could light up a room, and her loving heart made her a friend to all.
Pallbearers were Anthony Trent, Jamar Williams, Mary Thacker, Brian Chasteen, Jayden Garfias, and Mandy Trent.
Services were conducted on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Lakes Funeral Home. Pastor Kenny Davis officiated. Burial followed at Madison County Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be left at www.lakesfuneralhome.com
