Gary Owen Vanderoef, 76, of Berea, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on May 18, 2025. He was born in Mt. Vernon, New York on Dec. 7, 1948, to Elmer and Edythe.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother, great granddaughter and great angel baby. He is survived by his wife, Clara of 55 years, his brother, five children, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. And of course, his fur babies- the girls.
On Oct. 31, 1970, he married his wife Clara and they have been trick or treating together ever since. In 1975, he graduated from Iona College.
Gary was known for his sense of humor. He was revered by many in the community through his excellent work as the director of golf and parks and recreation for Madison County and at Battlefield Golf Course.
Gary loved to travel, especially to Italy, where he and Clara made many memories. He shared in many experiences with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family game nights, target shooting and golfing, were some of his favorite things to do.
Memorial service provided by Lakes Funeral Home is being held at Battlefield Golf Course, 524 General Cruft Dr, Richmond, KY on Wednesday, May 21st at noon.
