Jacqueline Combs Lake, affectionately known as Jackie to her friends and family, passed away on Oct.  28, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on Jan. 24, 1942, in Hazard, Jackie was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. She passed away at Baptist Health in Richmond due to complications after a fall.
Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, George Washington and Emily Jane Sumner Combs; her husband, Wendell Lake; her siblings, Thelma Combs, George Combs, Judy Combs, Donald Lee Combs, John Combs, Charles Combs, and Betty Jones; and her stepdaughter-in-law, Carey Lake, and stepson-in-law, Keith Lucas. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her son, Jeff Johnson; stepchildren, Kirk Lake and Lisa Lucas; grandchildren, Taylor (Nate) Helsley, and Cameron (Cassie) Johnson; step-grandchildren, Amanda Miller, and Christina Young; great-grandchildren, Joel Jeffrey Johnson, Leighton Helsley, and one yet to be born; and step-great-grandchildren, Kember Tims, Keith Miller, and Connor Miller. Jackie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Jackie's passion for education was evident in her long and fulfilling career as a teacher at Silver Creek Elementary. She was a proud alumna of Eastern Kentucky University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. Her dedication to her students and her belief in the power of learning shaped countless lives over the years.
A devout member of Wallaceton Baptist Church, Jackie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her involvement in the church brought her much joy and provided a source of strength and inspiration for many.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Pack and Mayor Bruce Fraley are officiating.
Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be live-streamed at www.lakesfuneralhome.com
