James Franklin “Jim” Abney, 73, of Richmond, husband of Lisa R. Abney passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was Born in 1951 to the late Everett Preston and Mae Gadd Abney. Jim was of the Baptist faith and a member at Galilee Baptist Church. In his spare time, Jim loved to be outside fishing, playing golf and listening to southern gospel music, especially the Gaithers. He also enjoyed old Western TV shows and spending time with his family.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Combs and two brothers, Preston, and Bluford Abney. One grandson Michael Murphy.
Other than his wife Jim is survived by his children, Shaun Abney, and Amanda Collins both of Berea, Makenna, and MaKenzie Abney both of Richmond and Calisa Pearson and her husband Doug of Richmond. One step-daughter Candice Kelly Maynard and her husband Dustin of Paint Lick. Jim is also survived by eight siblings, Roy Lee Abney of Berea, Vernon Abney and his wife Martha of North Carolina, Lewis Abney of Louisville, Doug Abney of Berea, Mitchell Abney and Mary Combs both of Georgia, Allie Wood of Rockcastle County and Kay Abney of Jackson County. Twelve grandchildren, Macy Foley, Molly Abney, MaKayla Landsaw, Morgan Grant, Madison Grant, Dylan Maynard, Dalton Maynard, Alexandra Maynard, Kelly Maynard, Melissa Slone, Katelyn Barrett and Joey Murphy.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2025, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, also at the funeral home, Rev. Lee Abney will officiate. Burial will follow in the Davis-Witt Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lee Abney, Vernon Abney, Lewis Abney, Doug Abney, Mitchell Abney, Roy Combs, Mel Rose and Tim Fielder.
