Joyce Deloris Brattin

Joyce Deloris Smith Brattin, 90, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Baptist Health- Richmond. She was the widow of Donald Deaton Brattin who preceded her in death in 2022.

Joyce was born on May 25, 1934 in Whitley County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Samuel and Cora Alice McKeehan Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and had also worked in the billing department of Pattie A. Clay Hospital for many years. Joyce was a longtime faithful member of Viney Fork Baptist Church (now Kingston Forks Baptist Church), having joined when she was 13 years old, and she was very involved with the church’s WMU. She always enjoyed helping her church with bible school arts and crafts. Joyce loved children and even cared for her great-grandchildren up into her 80’s. Joyce was a member of the Madison County Homemaker’s Club. She served as a wedding coordinator for many brides, arranging flowers and offering direction. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. Some of her favorite destinations were out west as they reminded her of their early married days when Don was stationed in El Paso, TX.

Survivors include: one daughter, Rhonda Wells (Greg); two grandchildren, Brittany Bell (John) and Tyler Wells; one step-grandson, Jeff Wells; four great- grandchildren, Jake, Madelyn, Savannah, and Hunter Bell; one sister, Mildred Webb; and many nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by several siblings: Gladys Mullins, Opal Gentry, Preston Smith, Junnie Paul Smith, Susie Marie Smith, Flora Ethel Smith, Grant Otis Smith, and Ruth Colbenson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral home with Bro. Jason Eades officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Junior Smith, Ronnie Colbenson, Pat Black, Rich Berry, Jay Bicknell, and Jimmy Green. Honorary bearers will be: Richard Robinson, Keith Garrett, Brad Webb, and Randy Colbenson.
