Larry Calvin VanHoose, 71, of Berea, passed away Tuesday, May 6 surrounded by family. Born
on August 19, 1953 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Neva and Edgar “Tommy”
VanHoose. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Terry
VanHoose and his sister-in-law Judy VanHoose.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Letha Kay, and three children Melissa Fairchild and her
husband Kevin of Berea, Larry VanHoose Jr. and his wife Lisa of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Dad’s
“Cracker Jack” Mary Elizabeth Lewis of Berea. Larry was also called papaw or pappy by six grandchildren:
Hannah Fairchild, Nathanael Fairchild, Makenzie VanHoose, Maxwell VanHoose, Chloe Gibson, and Liam
Lewis. He is also survived by his sisters: Brenda Castle and her husband Ray of Baker Branch, Linda Slone
and her husband Hubert of Ashland, sister-in-law Judy G. VanHoose of Louisa, and a host of nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Larry was proud of his military service. He loved his family, U.K. Basketball, and Jesus. He enjoyed the
holidays, especially Christmas. He loved to get gifts. He was also generous with others-willing to give his
last dollar to someone in need. He was super competitive and loved to play games, a Pictionary
Extraordinaire! He was very loved.
Visitation for Larry was. Friday, May 9 th , 2025, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral
services were Saturday, May 10 th , also at the funeral home, Rev. Hubert Slone will
officiated. Burial followed with
full military honors in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were, Larry VanHoose, Jr.,
Kevin Fairchild, Nathanael Fairchild, Maxwell VanHoose, Ralph Reeseman, and Jake Wilson.
