Lonnie Abney

Lonnie Abney, 70, of Big Hill, Ky., passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 12, 1955, he was raised in Clover Bottom and remained deeply rooted in the place and people he called home.

Lonnie was married for over 50 years to the love of his life, Tina Abney, his partner in marriage, business, and every adventure life brought their way. Together, they owned and operated Abney’s Towing, a business built on hard work, integrity, and helping neighbors in need.

He dedicated more than 30 years of faithful service to Hyster, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment. A lifelong Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Lonnie also found strength and community as a proud member of Redlick Baptist Church.

Known for his larger-than-life personality, Lonnie was affectionately regarded as a renowned “housecat”—most content at home, always exactly where he wanted to be.

Lonnie was the son of Jack Abney and Beulah Tussey Abney and was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Russel Abney, Charlie Abney, and Johnnie Abney, and two sisters, Lola Jane Roe and Betty Brockman.

He is survived by his sister Jackie (Charles) Lakes; brother-in-law Bill (Frankie) Alexander; sisters-in-law Pennie (Tim) Centers and Maxine Abney; his children Jason (Morgan) Abney and Blake (Ariel) Abney; and his grandchildren Colten Abney, Laurel Abney, and Noah Sallie. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, also at the funeral home, Bro. Thomas Lester and Bro. Pall bearers include Jason Abney, Blake Abney, Colten Abney, Scott Alexander, Ryan Centers, Don Lakes, Chris Sipple, and Danny Pennington. Honorary Pall bearers include Laurel Abney, Noah Sallie, Bill Cook, Rick Isaacs, Fred Cox, Jimmy Lamb, Danny Dooley, James Adams, Clarence Issacs, Dewayne Lainhart, and Lonnie’s other close friends from Hyster, Big Hill Garage, and church - you know who you are. 

Lonnie Abney will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, work ethic, and deep love for his family and friends. His presence will be missed, but his stories, laughter, and legacy will live on in Big Hill and beyond.
