Mary Magdalene Combs Allen, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Berea. She was born June 4, 1930, in Cartersville, Ky to the late Charlie and Hattie Ballard Conn Combs. Mary was a “Cracker Jack.” She devoted her life to her family, especially her children, and taught them the importance of Love. Mary loved cooking dinner on Sundays for family and those times spent together. She wanted to be friends with everyone she met. Mary loved crafts, crocheting, knitting, gardening, sewing, and helping those in need. She was very patriotic, loved our country, and author of a book entitled “A Life Worth Living.” Mary was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord with all her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Paul Wesley Allen, two children, Ben Allen, Barry R. Allen, five siblings, Earl Combs, Edna Hensley, Fred Combs, Bernadene Thacker, and Doris Dollins.
Mary is survived by eight children, Peggy Austin of Richmond, KY, Lapana Jean Bolaski and her husband Larry of Rockingham, VT, Dianna Jo Fussell of Berea, KY, Michael P. Allen and his wife Betty of Bryant Pond, ME, Kenneth D. Allen and his wife Caryn of Richmond, KY, Amy Cheryl Allen of Berea, KY, Christopher Allen of Richmond, KY, Christy Allen-Harrington and her husband Jaime of Rutland, VT, one brother Roy Combs of Berea, KY, twenty-two grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. A host of niece’s nephews and friends also survive.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday March 13, 2026, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Allen Livingood officiating. Pallbearers are Michael Allen, Kenneth Allen, Christopher Allen, Brandon Allen, Josh Bolaski, Tim Austin, Jeremy Allen, and Cooper Allen. Honorary pallbearers are Colton Allen, Christopher Allen, and Ben Allen.
