Sally James Thwaites, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 30, 2023, in Berea. Born in Mayville, North Dakota, on June 11, 1942, to Ernest James and Celestine Staub James.

A beloved matriarch, Sally will be profoundly missed by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Vernon Thwaites. Her memory will continue to be cherished by their daughters, Sandra (Todd) Stone, Stacey (Jay) Kennedy, and Stephanie Hembree. Her brother, Lee James, also survives her. Her presence will be carried forward in the cherished memories of her surviving family: her grandchildren, Jonathan (Bryley) Johnson, Jessica (Michael) Wilkerson, Bailey Moberly, Chad (Lindsey) Stone, Jay Stone, Amy Newby, Amanda (Kris) Linville, Brittany Ritzman, Chase (Andrea) Adams, and Hannah Hembree; as well as her adored great-grandchildren Teagan, Ava, Sara, Rebecca, Jayden, Logan, Reid, Emma, Graci, Luke, Isaiah, Gabriel, Olivia, Karter, and Lakyn.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Richard James, Duane James, and Elaine Bouck; and her grandson, Dalton Hembree. Each of these loved ones held a special place in her heart.

Sally shaped her community with empathy and compassion through her dedicated work as a respiratory therapist and social worker at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville. She was a member of the Catlettsburg United Methodist Church.

Graveside services were held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Pilot Knob Cemetery. Pastor Stephen Hobbs, and her grandson, Jonathan Johnson officiated.

Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
