Steven Ray Hayes, 67, widower of Patricia Lynn Hayes passed away Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at his home. He was born November 28th, 1956, in Berea, to the late Oscar and Christine Hardix Hayes. He was a family man loving his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters with all his heart. Steve retired from Hitachi where he worked in the maintenance department and was a former machinist, he also had owned and operated several small businesses in the past to include Snyder Grocery and his machine shop. After his retirement he and Patty spent lots of time helping his son at Hayes Market in Mount Vernon. Steve enjoyed his farm and caring for his horses, especially his broodmare Bell, he raised Tennessee Walking Horses and had shown them in the past. He was a musician and enjoyed playing the guitar, especially his bass, Steve was a part of the Renfro Valley Jamboree cast in the 1980’s. He was an active member of his church Emmanuel Baptist where he sang in the choir.
Other than his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, Jimmy, Tommy, Frankie, and Jack Hayes, Cynthia Rose, and Bessie Parsons.
Steve is survived by two sons, Andrew Hayes and his wife Patty of Berea, and Luke Hayes and his wife Jennifer of Mount Vernon. Four grandchildren, Aubrey, Ally, Evan, and Eli Hayes. One brother, Bob Hayes and his wife Carol of Nicholasville, three sisters, Eva Hubble and her husband Kirby of Berea, Sue Cole of the Villages, and Chrissy Collier of Berea. A host of nieces, nephews and in-laws also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Steve’s church family for all the support shown to him during his battle with cancer.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, March 25th, 2024. Rev. Joey Kays officiated. Burial followed in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Rucker, Chris Parsons, Shannon Hayes, Kirby Hubble, Billy Joe Hackworth, and Greg Cox. Honorary pallbearers were Aubrey, Ally, Evan, and Eli Hayes.
Davis and Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
