William Preston Hill

William Preston Hill, age 86, died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness at his residence in Berea. He was born December 27, 1936, in Berea to the late Luther D. and Martha Shearer Hill.

Living much of his life in Berea, Mr. Hill graduated from Berea College in 1961 and then received his master’s from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1967. He loved nature, being outdoors, gardening, farming and anything with birds. He could identify birds by their faintest call. Mr. Hill was an avid news, weather watcher and U.K. fan. He always asked, “Has the mail run yet”. He was a member of the Berea United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Jane Sands Hill in 1979 in Brandon, Florida, and daughter Kathryn Jenan Burns in June 2023.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Edna Mae Jacobs Hill, three children, Kevin Weisbrod and his wife Diane of Mountain View, Missouri, Scott Weisbrod and Darla of Mountain View, Missouri, Melanie Edmondson and her husband Brian of Canton, Georgia, and son-in-law Richard Burns of Brandon, FLlorida, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday December 6, 2023, at Berea United Methodist Church. Rev. Timothy Karvonen officiated. Burial followed in the Davis-Witt Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Pallbearers were Kevin Weisbrod, Scott Weisbrod, Brian Edmondson, Deane Fore, Michael Morales, and Nathan Morales. Honorary pallbearers were John Jacobs, John Stevenson, and Doug Hazelwood.
