Ruth Carolyn Prewitt Allen, 84, Berea

Ruth Carolyn Prewitt Allen, 84, wife of Corbin Allen passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was born in Madison County on June 04, 1940, to the late Lyle and Bertha Payne Prewitt.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Douglas, and Harold Prewitt.

 Ruth retired from Parker Seal in 2001 after 40 years of service. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the love of her life, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother and through her hard work, Ruth instilled a wonderful work ethic in all of her children. She loved to camp, enjoyed photography, bird watching and antiquing. Ruth looked forward to lunch and shopping with her brother Bob and sister Dorothy.

 For many years she served the Middletown community as an assistant at the Middletown Community Center on Walnut Meadow Road. She also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the league at Maroon Lanes in Richmond for many years. Ruths faith was most important to her, and she was an active and faithful member of the Richmond Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Ruth is survived by her children, Carol Merritt Courtney of Richmond, Earl Merritt and his wife Susan of Berea, Kenneth Merritt and his wife Rebecca of Richmond, and Kimberly Merritt Lakes and her husband Kevin of Berea. Four siblings, Pauline DeVary of Winchester, Faye Edington of Frankfort, Bob Prewitt of Richmond, and Dorothy Smith of Berea. Eleven grandchildren, Eric Courtney and his wife Kamryn, Tori Terry, Ashley Sharp and her husband Michael, Courtney Mize and her husband Brian, Kelsey Merritt, Joshua Merritt and his wife Kriston, Jeremiah Merritt, Christopher Lamb and his wife Nikki, Dre` Lamb and his wife Alexis, Kennedy Lamb, and Ryker Lamb. Fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with visitation from Noon until the service. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery, pallbearers will be, Chris Lamb, Dre` Lamb, Ryker Lamb, Joshua Merritt, Jeremiah Merritt, and Eric Courtney.
